Description: The portability of mobile devices is believed to bring new methods that can shape learning styles and pedagogies which could become more personalised and allow learners to learn on the move. Such change has enabled a new way of learning English, which is via the use of mobile learning. Understanding the factors that affect ESL learners' attitude and intention for using mobile learning is critical to its successful implementation. Encouraged by this new trend in learning English as Second Language, this research employed quantitative research methodologies to explore the factors that affect Malaysian polytechnic ESL learners' attitude and intention for using mobile learning. Based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), this research examined the factors, including (1) performance expectancy, (2) effort expectancy, (3) social influence, (4) perceived language learning potential, (5) learning preference and (6) self-management of learning, and tested hypothesis that are critical to answer research questions and fulfil research objectives. In order to quantify these factors and test research hypothesis, a data collection instrument adapted from previous studies was developed and administered. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) were used to analyse the data. The respondents were 378 Malaysian polytechnic ESL learners. The results indicated that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, perceived language learning potential and learning preference are significant predictors of the learners' attitude towards mobile learning, thus affects ESL learners' intention for using it. On the other hand, self-management of learning was found to be insignificant. Additionally, this research examined the role of attitude as mediator towards Malaysian polytechnic English as Second Language (ESL) learners' intention for using mobile learning; as well as the role of gender and education background (technical and non-technical) as moderators. The findings showed that attitude mediates the relationships between performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, perceived language learning potential and learning preference; and intention. As far as the moderation is concerned, gender moderates the relationships between performance expectancy and attitude as well as the relationship between learning preference and attitude. Education background, however, was found not to moderate any of the relationships. This research provides polytechnic administrators and educators the understandings on the factors that influence ESL learners' intention for using mobile learning and the capability to build strategies and policies that incorporate these factors into planning and designing phases of mobile learning implementations for English as Second Language (ESL) learning purposes.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available
